There are less than 2 weeks left until a New Year begins. The start of the New Year brings for many of us new hope. It signifies new beginnings, a fresh start and an opportunity for great change. We resolve to do things differently in the New Year. We vow that we will spend more time with our families, we will quit smoking, stop swearing, cross things off our buckets lists & of course the most popular promise we each make to ourselves is to lose weight.
Having managed health clubs for 10 years it was always fun to watch the influx of members arriving after the first of the year & then the rapid decline in attendance with each day thereafter.
New Year’s resolutions are made to be broken after all aren’t they? So why do we do them? With the extra holiday layer that I packed on for the season, is it just a guilt free way to make it acceptable to keep stuffing in the cakes, cookies & candy.
“It’s fine! I will start eating well on the first.”
I will exercise every day & take up running and all of that cookie weight will come right off. Then the 1st arrives & I realize that nobody can start a diet on a Thursday. That is silly. Everybody knows that it needs to be a Monday. Monday comes & someone brings leftover holiday cookies to work.
“I will have just one.”
“Well, I already messed up today with the cookie, sooooooo….”
This vicious cycle will continue until next year. It’s not my fault that everyone at my work seems to like to bake. It would be rude to not try some.
New Year’s resolutions on a whole make me chuckle. If we wanted to make these changes we could do them at anytime. Next year I resolve to be a better person. Does that mean this year you can still enjoy being as crappy of a human as possible?
This year I resolve not to resolve anything.
And this is why I adore you, because I am so not a resolutions type of person on the whole. Attainable goals, I shot for, but resolutions on the whole are not really my thing, because I know for the most part if I am make a resolution, I will most likely break it.
Lol! Thanks Janine. I adore you as well. I always break them. Bad me!
I’m with you, but also too realistic to make extreme life changing desicions I know won’t last. But I’ll keep on trying to maintain a relatively healthy balance in my life 🙂
I do as well. I joke about the cake and cookies, but I rarely partake in such things even though they are constantly in my face at work. I hope you and your family have a happy holiday. 🙂
Happy holidays to you too!
I never make new years resolutions, i make some wishes x
I like that. That is a better idea. New Years wishes…I wish you and your family the best in the New Year. Merry Christmas. 🙂
I make a wish each year. Thank you very much. I wish a happy new year to you and your family too 🙂
This is why I don’t do resolutions. I just say, “I’ll try.”.
Me too! I am trying all year round.
I find life’s too volatile and precious at the minute for resolutions, i find it better to have broad goals. Sometimes achieved and sometimes not, no regrets so far though.. 🙂
Definitely no regrets. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday. 🙂
